Zen has a new name – Sereni-Tea!

Sereni-Tea by Tania’s Teahouse is one of those places that just make you smile. It’s a place where people do what they love and do a great job of it! Attached to a wellness centre, Keyani, the theme here is feel-good food and good vibes. Located in the heart of Umm Suqeim and nestled among the lush and Zen grounds of Keyani, Sereni-tea offers visitors an exceptionally relaxed and peaceful environment.

The space inside is well designed and airy with welcoming interiors and eclectic décor with a touch of whimsy. It has a hygge vibe with neutral, earthy, and pastel shades. On a chilly morning, it was surprisingly cozy and welcoming. The staff is friendly and helpful and their genuine enthusiasm shines through.

The outdoors is the epitome of Zen with scattered tables and chairs under a rustic canopy, surrounded by lush greenery. The perfect spot for lunch with your family, a coffee catch-up with friends, an inspiring spot to work from, or just a place to get away from it all, the patio and garden is pet friendly.

We fully embraced their “wellness” idea, opting for their famed healing teas that had several different flavours. All the teas are custom blended by Tania Lodi, the owner. They are organic, ethically sourced and contain zero artificial ingredients. Their ingredients have many properties including being anti-inflammatory, gut-healing, and delicious. Thoughtfully mixed with warming spices, it’s something you want to cuddle up with on a winter day! We opted for Cheerful Cherry – a delicious blend made from Ashwagandha root and balanced with cranberry, cherries and elderflower and Golden Glow – a magic elixir of ginger, turmeric, carrot, beet and pineapple for skin, hair and cell repair, served in lovely spill-proof magic tea steepers!

The menu has also been carefully designed to cater to everyone, and everything is made fresh and in-house so your preferences can easily be taken care of. Sereni-tea is inclusive, whether you are gluten-free, vegetarian or vegan, sugar-free or dairy-free there will be something for you! “The mindful menu has inclusive offerings that show that gut-healing, anti-inflammatory dishes can still be fun and flavourful,” says Tania.

On offer are a variety of all day breakfast options, salads, sandwiches, wraps, super bowls, and desserts. The drinks menu clearly highlights ingredients used and includes sustainably sourced coffee and adaptogen lattes called, ‘magic mylks’, a range of drinks that aid your resistance to environmental stressors with special ingredients such as magical mushrooms, supplements (i.e ashwagandha, maca) and herbs. Their kombucha – a fermented tea has wonderous gut-healing properties and is full of antioxidants. It is also a great probiotic and can aid your resistance to environmental stressors.

We opt for the Let That Man-go salad – a refreshing and tropical salad with mango, papaya and mixed veggies, topped with pone nuts and with a tangy Thai dressing. My friend opted for the Gran-oh-la-lah Parfait – a comforting medley of granola parfait layered with probiotic Greek yoghurt and raspberry puree.

For desserts we picked the deliciously moist and soft flourless Chocolate cake and Pistachio, Rose and Banana flavoured macaroons!

We stayed for nearly 2 hours! If that isn’t a testament to what a great environment they’ve created we don’t know what else is. And it’s not just food, the place cares for the body, mind, and soul too, with a variety of classes and experts in a range of healing modalities.

Sereni-tea aims to be as zero waste as possible. As Tania Lodi says “we’ve picked sustainability over aesthetics, for example, you will find no display chiller at Sereni-tea. Display chillers are notorious for high wastage due to the pressure of filling them up! We are embracing being a small batch cafe and would rather run out of an item due to popularity, than waste one. In order to reduce the wastage of fruit, we make fresh smoothies and juices, and our own berry preservative for our salad dressings and granola. We also use our coffee grinds to help our plants prosper and will eventually use them for skincare products too”.

“The inner wisdom (and metaphor) of drinking tea:

“We want to achieve things too quickly but we must slow down and engage in the small-sip act of patience.

The act of sipping tea is a beautiful ode to being present. This should not be rushed.

Surrender yourself to the process and bask in the stillness of the universe.

Let the leaves, swirling around in your cup, be your escape from reality and a ticket to s e r e n i – t e a , the home of your inner-heart space” – Tania Lodi
