Veggie grills and thrills

We bring to you a brand new delightful dining experience for vegetarians and it is not what you would expect at all, says Ipshita Sharma. Full of smoky flavours and amazing tableside experiences, Argentina Grill has something for everyone.

As someone who has stated away from most meats all our lives, we never through of Argentina Grill as a great meal destination. While our friends oohed and aahed over their fantastic fare, we stayed away thinking it wouldn’t really have much on offer for us. So when we got told about their new vegetarian menu, we were completely nonplussed at first, but then we set ourselves up a fun little challenge!

We decided we would go there and try to have an entire meal just from the vegetarian options! Crazy? Maybe! But why not?

We head there on a lovely weekday evening when they have a sheesha promo going on. Located in the middle of the La Mer prettiness, you can walk around the beach before or after your meal. The restaurant has a fantastic seating area both upstairs and down with even a deck overlooking the beach. Very well-laid out layout with plenty of space to move around, this restaurant is a visual treat. Note: Sitting upstairs might be better for those squeamish about the sight of meat being hung to age.

There is also an open kitchen where meat-lovers and gourmet food lovers can watch their meat achieve their desired level of doneness in real time. Of course, we were able to see our mango grilled there too!!

Now let’s start with the food, we decide to go with a collection of small plates of food rather than stick to a main so that we could try out the various options. The Guacamole Con Chipsams De Maiz (with corn chips) was an obvious first choice, followed by the Ensalada de Queso de Cabra or the goat cheese salad where the goat cheese had also been grilled to make it all unctuous and gooey.

Then came the Aguacate En Parrilla or grilled avocado which while it wasn’t a highlight was a very interesting way of reading one of my favourite foods. Pimientos Fritos or fried mini peppers was just what my little heart wanted next – salty and spicy and so very flavourful, these were just jumping off the plate with awesomeness.

Then came the highlight, the Provoletta or provolone cheese that was flambéed tableside! Oh the joy of seeing and smelling really good cheese being blistered and bubbled and roasted is indescribable and definitely worth the trip out to Argentina Grill itself! It was almost like a sumptuous fondue that we just couldn’t stop dunking bread or any other edible bits we could find.

Lastly came the moment that we were waiting for, the grilled mango dessert. It was a generous slice of mango, still slightly warm from the grill, that came along with mint threads, cream cheese and a dark chocolate wafer. We combined the mango, mint and the cream cheese and got the most delightful bite. And while we do love our churros, this grilled mango treat must become the national dish of some country because it is a delicious phenomenon!

Let’s talk fun extras now, this particular restaurant is fully licensed and their signature drinks are fun and refreshing and pretty strong. They also have really good sheesha with promos running on some weekdays. Call them before you go and do make reservations.
