What inspired you to specialize in non-invasive advanced technologies for skin transformation?

I studied Human Genetics and Medical Biochemistry at University, at undergrad and post grad level and had an immense interest in physics, however I also trained in sales and marketing at a very well-known retail establishment during my studies in London very early in my career. Soon discovered I love human interaction and the beauty industry by wondering through the beauty department of that very famous store. So, I wanted to combine my love of everything beauty along with my science background. The non-invasive aesthetic industry namely laser treatments was emerging, so I trained in Laser technology and opened my own clinic and this is where my journey began. My curiosity pushes me daily to discover and create bespoke protocols to achieve the best results by combing them with topicals and skin care.

How do these advanced technologies work at a cellular level to improve skin quality and appearance?

Depending on what needs to be achieved there are technologies and specific laser wavelengths that penetrate the skin at different depths depositing heat to induce a controlled injury which will trigger a healing response which results in newer healthier cells (collagenesis)

Can you explain the typical process involved in a treatment session using one of these technologies?

All treatments start with a comprehensive consultation where I assess the condition needing treatment, with considerations such as, age, skin type and area of face or body to be treated with a comprehensive discussion with the patient covering process, number of sessions, expectation and downtime.

During the actual treatment, usually a consent form is signed, photos are taken, which is essential to see improvement. Then numbing cream is applied to treatment area if required, the treatment with commence with as little discomfort as possible. After treatment is complete, certain creams and ointments will be applied to aid healing and aftercare instructions given, then second treatment or follow up appointment booked after a few weeks.

What are the primary benefits of non-invasive procedures compared to traditional surgical options for skin rejuvenation?

Mainly no disruption to day to day life. With most non-invasive treatments patients can resume their daily activities almost immediately with just a little precaution, such as no direct sunlight for a few days after and the use of a good SPF. Improvement will be noticed by both the patient and other people over the next couple of weeks skin will look fresher, even toned or tighter or more lifted depending on treatment undertaken. With surgical intervention there is a longer healing time and the risk of being under general anesthetics, which isn’t desired by many.

How do you assess a patient’s skin condition and determine which technology or combination of treatments would be most suitable for their needs?

With my extensive and comprehensive understanding of both the anatomy of the skin and the technologies used. I will combine my understanding of the patient desire and their lifestyle to devise a suitable treatment plan.

What results can patients expect to see after undergoing treatments with these advanced technologies, and how soon can they typically expect to see improvements?

Depending on the treatment and factors such as age of patient and post-care instructions followed, for lifting and tightening typically a patient needs to undergo 3-4 sessions to see visible end results. For pigmentation, depending on type of pigmentation and severity anything from one session for light sun damage to ongoing maintenance for those that suffer from a chronic condition such as Melasma. This applies for conditions such as rosacea and acne too.

Are there any potential side effects or risks associated with these non-invasive procedures, and how do you mitigate them?

There are always risks associated; to minimize these risks as much as possible, correct parameters are used for the desired treatment and strict after care instructions must be adhered to, such as no or little sun and heat exposure, using the correct after care healing products, no immediate travel and the essential use of SPF.

Some of the possible side effects are: PIH (post inflammatory hyperpigmentation), bruising, blistering, swelling etc..

How do you customize treatment plans for individual patients based on their unique skin concerns and goals?

Every treatment starts with a comprehensive consultation. A combination of listening to, observing the patients’ issues or areas of concern and their desired results. I make a mental note of what needs to be done but only after I hear what the specific areas of concerns are communicated by the patient, will I share my thoughts and treatment plan with them. Their lifestyle, age, skin condition, budget are considerations I factor in when devising a treatment plan.

Can you discuss any innovative or emerging technologies in the field of non-invasive skincare that you’re particularly excited about?

The aesthetic and in particular the non-invasive technology market is growing at a very rapid pace. People are gravitating toward a more non- invasive natural approach to maintaining healthy looking youthful skin and they are starting at a very early age, I always say “prevention is the best cure”. There are world-wide exhibition and conferences I attend where global companies showcase their most up to date and advance technologies. I am excited about introducing a few to my practice that would use just one session to tighten, lift and elevate skin conditions. Combining with the fairly new on the market exosomes and stem cell topical products which enhance recovery and results.

Lastly, could you share your perspective on the future direction of non-invasive skincare treatments and how they may continue to evolve to meet the needs of patients?

Thanks to all the social media platforms, education in this field amongst other fields hasn’t been as accessible as now. The non-invasive aesthetic market will continue to grow in the coming years and decades to come, people are a lot more aware and understand they need a more holistic and combined approach to general wellbeing starting at a very early age. Skin is just one aspect but it’s the main organ that showcases general health. Skincare combined with the help of clinic treatments along with leading a healthy lifestyle which encompasses, diet, exercise, habits, sleep and mental wellbeing are major components for this holistic approach I refer to.
