Pigmentation has in recent times, become an area of concern for many. In acute cases, it becomes hyper pigmentation. This condition is a result of excess melanin accumulation. This may be due to hormonal imbalance or a result of pregnancy or menopause. Birth control pills and sun exposure is the biggest enemy. If you suffer from pigmentation or even otherwise, skin must always be protected from sun exposure. Hyper pigmentation is also sometimes referred to as liver spots. Brown spots appear first on the cheek followed by the nose, forehead or even the back and hands. Adding vitamin E, helps this skin condition.

Some helpful home remedies:

  1. Raw potato juice

Take one tablespoon raw potato juice, add some almond powder. Apply the mask daily on the brown patches. Gently scrub off after 30 minutes and follow with a chilled water rinse.

2. Coconut milk

Mix coconut milk 1 tablespoon with almond powder. Apply this creamy mask on the brown spots. Then scrub off, followed with a chilled water rinse.

  1. Massaging potato pulp or juice over the brown spots is helpful. It may be left overnight if you wish.
  1. Strawberry puree mix­

Add 1tablespoon puree and enough oats powder to make a paste. Apply a thick pack over the pigmentation. 30 minutes later, scrub off followed with a chilled water and rinse.

  1. Yoghurt

Add 1teaspoon yoghurt to cane sugar. Apply this on the pigmentation. Scrub off after 30 minutes. Follow with chilled water rinse.

Saloon Treatments for Pigmentation

  1. Glycolic acid peels
  2. Alpha hydroxy acid peels

Facials especially targeting on the pigmented skin should be fine.

Special Mask for Pigmented Skin

2 tbsp grated fresh raw potato

1 tbsp lime juice

2 tbsp cucumber puree

1 tablespoon yoghurt

Put all the above ingredients in a blender. Make a smooth paste and refrigerate in an airtight jar. Take 1tbsp of corn flour, add enough the liquid to make a paste. Apply it generously over the pigmented area. 30 minutes later scrub off with cold water. The potato juice can be stored for only 3 days. Apply this mask daily for excellent results. Always wear a sun block 30 minutes before stepping out in the sun.
