The lovely and friendly therapist Alivi guided me to the spa area and went through my needs – both skincare and emotional – and talked me through the range of products used at each stage throughout the facial, and I was able to pick which ones to use on my skin. We finally create a slate palette with all the necessary ingredients to use in the facial before we head into the cosy treatment room with an inviting heated couch in the centre.
Alivi, armed with a jug of fruit-infused water and dry ice, creates a fragrant steam that floats along the couch and through the room – a spectacle that’s as refreshing as it is visually stunning. Lush have commissioned a special soundtrack for the Validation facial; the sounds begin with waves and there are snatches of voices fading in and out, talking about skin care and positivity (not as disruptive as I had imagined) as well as some folk songs. It all added up to a very dream-like experience. This soothing soundscape that is uniquely different, is played throughout the entirety and almost instantly, calms and relaxes you. The heated bed is utterly heavenly, and helps cast out any fears and woes.
The facial journey kicks off with a gentle temple-soothing essential balm massage containing lavender and chamomile to soothe the nerves, followed by fragrant steam and a luxurious cleanse with their ultrabland cleanser. A gentle exfoliation sets the stage for the highlight – a blissful facial massage using Lush’s famous massage bars, including an unexpected touch of hot stones for that extra oomph. The experience peaks with the Don’t Look at Me fresh face mask, a rejuvenating mask made with cleansing lemon juice and scrubby ground rice, accompanied by a heavenly hand and arm massage with the Sweet Wild Orange hand balm. As we relax with the mask, cucumber and carrageen seaweed eye pads help cool and calm the eyes. As we gently wipe away the mask residue, the finale features the Cosmetic lad moisturizer and a dab of the enchanted eye cream. It all ends with some fresh fruit juice, freshly squeezed for you while relaxing in the lounge area.
