Oceans bring life and to catch a fish is a tricky business, but Fish Beach Taverna at Le Meridien Beach Resort proved they are the catch of the day, says Melanie Gordon.
I went with my friend Nadia to Fish Taverna to sample some of the delights on offer and was delighted to know that it was not just for pescatarians either! The whole family can enjoy a range of delicious food, whilst sitting with the beautiful back drop of the sea. The evening seems more magical as the lights twinkled overhead brining more of a sense of peace to the Arabian waters which lapped on the serene white sands on the water’s edge where Fish is located.
The delights were brought to us at the table, but you could also choose from the oyster bar, main cooking station where the chef would cook your desired fish to order and even a muscle bar, depending on your taste. We tried the calamari, which was served with a slice of lemon to add that extra zing and bring out the crispness of the batter. Served with cooling wine as the ambience of the family oriented night was abound.
The umpteenth mouthful of the delicious home made bread with the silky smoothness of the Atom (a blend of eggplant served with garlic yogurt and spicy sauce with a drizzle of olive oil) and the Caclik which is a paste of yogurt mixed with garlic, cucumber and mint, was devoured by us.The Aegean Sea also brought the delights of amazingly large prawns. The Vantuz dish of octopus marinated with rosemary, garlic and oregano, was one of the most tenderest octopus ever and the salted sea bass did not disappoint. There are also a large range of vegetarian and carnivore options should you fancy something not just from the sea.
All the taverna style cuisine is there to be shared and enjoyed outside in this stunning open air location with the sea views. The white washed walls with the hints of azure blues with picnic type tables on the sand, almost feels like you’re on holiday in the Greek islands. Only the freshest fish is served making the menu shine with truly instagrammable moments. The Turkish and Greek food fusion brings together a family affair in the hotel making it most compatible for all cosmopolitan demographics. The staff was more than attentive with a good working knowledge of all the menu and were able to answer any question they were asked.
There is no being a fish out of water for this restaurant as the delights kept flowing all evening for the revamp as the new season starts for Dubai’s winter outdoor dining. If you like fish, you’ll love Fish!
