Facial reset

Dermaplaning is a fairly new trend in the skincare world but many already swear by it. Ipshita Sharma faces up to a chance to try it out and see if it rocks her world too.

Heading to NR Beauty in Motor City, I am both excited and a bit nervous. Doing my homework for this meant reading a lot about shaving the face and taking the peach fuzz off but as Naomi Bell, owner of NR beauty, explains it is so much more.

The main focus of dermaplaning is taking off the peach fuzz, all the dead skin cells and any dirt or grime that may ever have settled on the outermost layers of the skin. These impurities clog the skin causing breakouts and acne in the long run.

As I walk in and see the Elemis products, I feel a bit comfortable right away. Elemis is a British skincare range with absolutely no nasties. While usually for the Platinum Deraplaning facial Naomi uses the incredibly well-known Esthemax products, on seeing my love for Elemis, she customises the experience and uses the amazing Elemis products instead.

We head to the therapy room where Naomi walks me through the process. Calling it more than just simple exfoliation, she explains that dermaplaning is necessary every 2 to 3 months to keep the skin rejuvenated because it helps the skin to reset.

All safety measures in place, Naomi starts the process with Elemis Pro Collagen Cleansing Balm to clean off the face, followed by the Elemis Rehydrating Ginseng Toner to close out the pores. Both of these products are just so gentle and Naomi handles them so deftly, that I am lulled into a sense of utter joy and calmness.

Naomi then uses Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel as the base for my dermaplaning. There is a gentle shaver-type device used for this process that gently takes off the small hairs, dead skin cells, dirt and impurities from the face. There is absolutely no pain though there is a feeling of tightness around the mouth and where there is dry skin on my face.

Naomi explains that this is like a clean slate for the skin that helps the skin to absorb the products that we put on the face. Apparently, most of the products we use get rubbed off without getting absorbed. Now, the skin can easily get moisturized but we also need to use gentler products and stay away from acidic serums for a while just to let the skin develop some resistance.

To finish off the procedure, she uses the Elemis Exotic Moisture Mask which she leaves on for a while to absorb you into the skin and then tops it off with Elemis SOS Emergency Cream (which is my personal favourite product).

This hour-long process left me feeling really refreshed and my skin really looked so much younger and happier. I genuinely recommend trying this out in case you have mask-cne or milia or simpler skin issues. Naomi is also your go-to person for more intense skin issues. She is a one-stop shop of great skin-related advice and knowing which products would be the best fit for your skin.

Good – Dermaplaning is really great for rejuvenating the skin

Bad – Many people are trying it at home with plastic razors and that might do more harm than good

Trendy – Dermaplaning is a new process that is quickly gaining a lot of trust and popularity after being endorsed by dermatologists and aestheticians.
