Eat Healthy While You Travel

While most of us may be packing our bags for the much-awaited travel to an exotic trip, we have to make sure we carry all our essentials. The right clothes, sunscreen, smart gadgets are the few things that will surely make their way into our back pack. But what most of us forget and ought to put into our bag is something healthy to eat. India Gate gives us tips to be healthy on the go!

We do realize that, on trips like these we find ourselves snacking at restaurants most of the time. Though we know this is unhealthy but there is nothing much we can do about it, as we can’t possibly be carrying all our home cooked meals along with us. But what we can do is, carry with us a few food items that will keep us going and provide our body with the required nutrients. Below mentioned are a food items you should carry along with you while on travel. This comes in handy when you are on the go, trekking or hiking or just do not have the time for a full-fledged meal.

MIX OF NUTS AND SEEDS: One of the best on-the-go snack a mix of nuts and seeds is the most energizing, filling and nutritious choice which is convenient to carry and does not require any preparation. Carry a mix of nuts like almonds, cashews, walnuts and pistachios along with seeds like chia seeds, flax seeds and pumpkin seeds. These nuts and seeds have high nutrient contents that are good for health.

GRANOLA BARS: Another must carry travel food is granola bars. A homemade granola is not only cost effective but is a lot healthier than the kind you buy. You can make some really delicious granolas and energy bars using quinoa and nuts. Quinoa is high in protein and iron and is the most trending super food.

QUINOA FLAKES: Quinoa flakes is another good food option to carry with you during travel. They are filling and energizing. You can cook them with hot water and add in nuts, fruits, milk. This makes for a wholesome breakfast that is rich in protein, fibre and is gluten free.

GREEN TEA BAGS: The advantages of carrying green tea bags are many, not only is it loaded with anti-oxidants and nutrients which are healthy, but it has other uses too. It is a great mouth freshener, so every time you have something with a strong after smell, have a cup of green tea to combat it. You can also use the bags as an eye pack to relieve you of tiredness and fatigue.

Ingredients 

• 1/2 cup cooked quinoa, refrigerated

• 2 tbsp peanut butter

• 2 tbsp desiccated coconut

• 2 tbsp roasted walnut powder

• 1 tbsp choco chips

• 2 tbsp honey

• 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Method 

• In a bowl, mix together all the  ingredients until well combined. Divide  into 8 portions and roll into balls. Place  these energy bites in the freezer for 30  minutes – 1 hour.

• If you make a bigger batch, store them  in an airtight container in the freezer.
