Delights of India

Indiana Delights restaurant gives you an all-encompassing taste of international cuisine prepared the desi way! The place is good for a meal in the middle of the afternoon, in the evening after a long stressful day or for those lazy Netflix weekends. They offer Continental, Desi Chinese and Indian cuisines along with chaats, wraps and a healthy corner for the discerning foodie who loves to eat out but minds the calories!

We opted for a home delivery of Indian street food and it certainly did not disappoint! The packaging was perfect! They sent a masala chai and the glass was sealed so well that not a single drop of chai had spilt. Full marks for packaging and delivery!

The bread pakoda – a popular deep-fried Indian snack made with bread slices dipped in chickpea batter and fried with yummy potato and chutney filling. Batter coated, deep fried and enjoyed across the world this is one dish for which India takes full credit. This dish literally represents the sheer diversity of India. This one brought the street food experience right into our home with the best crunchy pakoras. Accompanied by Coriander and Mint Chutney we were in for that perfect treat!

Next was the Vada pav – the Indian burger that MacDonald’s cannot master! The humble Vada pav is synonymous with the city of Mumbai, with almost every resident, from factory workers to Bollywood stars, unashamed in declaring their love for it.

Hot, deep fried potato patties, known as batata vada, made with mashed potato mixed with masala spices, green chilli and, dipped in thick chickpea batter and fried. The vada is placed in a soft, square bread roll called a pav, layered with green chilli-coriander chutney, and dry garlic chutney. The sandwich is pressed and served with a side of fried green chilli and Masala Chai! It was almost as if I was biting into the original taste of Mumbai! It was a perfect divergence of tastes and textures: the soft pav and the spicy crunchiness of the vada. The first mouthful was a hit.

Accompanying the vada pav was the hot cup of Masala Chai – black tea infused with fragrant spices, typically served with milk. Perfect!

It was all rounded off with Kheer – a delicious, sweet ending to the tasty evening!
