Crowning Glory Part 2

Beauty Consultant and Cosmetologist Rima Soni talks Tress Sense and tells you all you need to know about hair care in a 3-part series.

Cleansing an oily scalp:

Wet your hair. Then massage honey and lemon juice into the scalp. Rinse off after 30 minutes, followed by a shampoo. No conditioner will be required.

Rich healthy hair, for a healthy scalp

Take 2 tablespoons of almond, olive or even coconut oil. Add 2 drops of sandalwood oil, 2 drops of rosemary oil and 2 drops of lavender oil. Do not warm the oils. Instead, give scalp a good brushing and then follow with this oil treatment. Shampoo off after an hour.

Dry split ends arrest healthy hair growth

Take 1 tablespoon of shampoo, add 2 drops of ylang-ylang oil and 3 drops of coconut, almond or sesame oil. Shampoo wet hair with this. No need to use a conditioner. Cool – dry hair with a fan or cold air from hair dryers. Hot air from hair dryers, hot rods or rollers are damaging for hair.

Nourishment for unloved hair

Massage warm extra virgin oil into the hair. Follow with steam or a steaming turban for 10 minutes. Shampoo off. Do this twice a week for soft and nourished hair.

Dry, flaky scalp that itches

Massage olive oil with a few drops of lemon juice into the scalp. Shampoo off after 1 hour.

Oily scalp

Give a final rinse with lemon juice and cool water. Do not over-brush the scalp. Avoid excessive consumption of oily or spicy foods, as this will only aggravate an oily scalp. Alternatively, you can also treat such a scalp with a paste of lentil and lemon juice. Apply and leave on hair for 30 minutes. Then rinse off with cool water. Avoid warm water for your showers as this de-activates the natural hair oils.

Natural Hair Conditioners

Apply a paste of spinach or ripe avocado to dry hair. Leave on for an hour and rinse off with cool, runny shower water.

Alcohol for hair treatment

  1. Take 8 tablespoons of vodka, 2 tablespoons of castor oil and 1/2 a teaspoon of black pepper powder. Leave this in a glass bottle for 2 days. Every day, massage 1 tablespoon of this lotion into the scalp. Leave on for 2 hours and then shampoo off.
  2. Brandy also adds sheen, growth, and life to dead hair. Take 2 tablespoons of brandy, 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 tablespoon of castor oil. Massage this into dry hair and leave on for 1 hour. Rinse off with a mild shampoo. No need to condition hair. Do this once a week.
  3. For bounce, volume, and sheen, use stale beer that has been kept open fort or more days. After shampooing, pour the beer onto wet hair. Rinse off after 20 minutes. Hair will get volume, bounce, and body if done once a week.

Conditioner for the hair

Full cream milk gives hair both body and shine. Shampoo hair, when wet, massage with full cream milk. Leave on for 20 minutes like you would with a conditioner. Rinse off and the hair will be manageable and shiny.

Rich protein treatment for thick hair

Take 1 tablespoon of unsweetened gelatin. Dissolve in 1/2 a cup of warm water. Let it set in the refrigerator. Once done, add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice and 5 drops of rosemary oil. Massage this on the scalp and hair. Leave on for an hour or overnight before shampooing off. Do this at least twice a week for excellent results.

Nourishment for the scalp

Massage 2 tablespoons of warm extra virgin olive oil into the scalp. Wrap with a cling film turban and follow with shampoo after 1 hour.

Healthy hair growth

Massage fresh carrot paste or carrot juice into the scalp and hair. Leave on for an hour or two. Shampoo your hair with a mild shampoo. Doing this thrice a week will greatly help hair growth.

Quick fix sheen for lifeless hair

Take a cup of coconut milk or full cream fresh milk. Add 2 table spoons of almond powder, 2 tablespoons of honey and 2 tablespoons of fenugreek powder. Blend together till you get a very smooth paste and apply to hair. Leave on for 30 minutes, rinse off and use a mild shampoo. Repeat twice a week.
