Love to wear glasses indoors, but cannot, for need of a prescription? Well, the vanilla glasses from Cali4nia, are here for you, with their changed concept of eyewear.
My early memories of eyewear, sorry “chashma”, (because that is how I got introduced to it), was seeing my dad wearing it, while reading newspapers and then also mom wearing it while knitting those woollen bags and shawls, which have now become our memorabilia. My sister too had to wear it because she had developed myopia at a very young age. The chashmas those days looked very unassuming, and it actually deglamorised one’s face, we believed, or rather, were led to believe. And that is why perhaps, you would see those wearing glasses, being nicknamed ” chashmish” or ” teacher”. I never bought that theory though. On the contrary, I thought, it added a lot of character and gave a very nerdish, intellectual look to one’s persona. At least that is how I pictured my mom and my sister. I also remember the time when a movie named Chashme Baddoor starring Deepti Naval got released. It was the art film era then, and I loved Deepti Naval in that black framed chashma look! I wanted to copy that style myself, but it was not possible. I did not have a prescription, so how could I wear a chashma? So sad, I thought. And that was my plight those days.
So, the chashma continued for eons, being just that…the unassuming, boring, plain jane glasses, which only adorned the faces of the chashmish.
Later, I remember my son during his engineering days in 2013, in his teens, taking my old prescription glasses, removing the lenses and wearing just the frame for “style” because he felt he looked good with it! I too thought he did. But of course, he couldn’t wear it always, because he had no issues with his eyesight.. So how could he wear a chashma? “So sad I can’t wear a glass ma,” he would say.
Cut to the new era…
The chashma now has become a fashion statement. From children to celebrities, everybody seems to be wearing the chashma.. and seem to be carrying it with style! The glasses these days are no longer the typical plain Jane black square one, they now come with all kinds of shapes and styles and from all kinds of fashion brands! Gucci to Cartier to Prada!
But there is a hitch. Only those who have a prescription get to wear it. People with normal sight cannot sport this look at all times. So, for those few or many, the chashma fashion is not going in their favour. And so, we all thought.
And I did so too, until just recently, when I saw an article in VisionPlus magazine about these “Vanilla” glasses, from an eyewear brand called Cali4nia. First of all, I loved the name “Vanilla”. And was further fascinated to know how these Vanilla glasses helped! They are eyewear with plain glasses, with just UV protection and no prescription number! Found these too good a concept! Just what I had always wanted. So now no need to have a prescription to sport that hot & savvy intelligent, chashmish look!
The brand that has introduced these Vanilla glasses is Cali4nia. Cool and fashionable. I love them. Now I have a stock of them for my son!
The Good: If you like eyewear as an accessory and you feel it makes you look good and stylish, then you have the option of wearing it at all times, outdoors and indoors, during summer and winter, whether you have the prescription number or not, whether there is sun or not. Add-on benefit is that it will keep you protected from UV rays while outdoors during winters, and from the blue light while using your day to day digital devices.
They are glasses without a prescription, providing blue light filters and UV protection. So now with cali4nia vanilla glasses, you can look smart, intelligent and corporate in the boardroom as well as sport a stylish, carefree look during night outs or while clubbing!
The Bad:
The more you keep wearing glasses, you might get too used to it, and when you don’t wear it, you might feel you are not “you”. Also, this is going to be yet another must-buy accessory and will end up burning a deeper hole in your pocket.
The Trendy:
Now you have the option of looking intelligent, smart and stylish at all times… during those killer conference meetings when you need to make a good impression, and also while clubbing and at your night out parties.
