Just Vegan Jumeirah brings the concept of a vegan, plant-based diet to life, with a pet-friendly rain-forest inspired vibe in an all-green, nature-inspired decor, where you expect to hear a waterfall gurgling away even while being seated indoors, and the best dishes being those that really are just themselves…
There is that but there is plenty else going on here too! Just Vegan is not at all your preachy, joyless experience where you forget the flavour and feel the virtue of Veganism. The indulgence is all on the plate in food cooked by a chef taking care to not only make it vegan but also to make it great, for prices that are a steal. And that’s our kind of place.
We try the Tasting menu by Chef Suresh Babu and come away impressed with the burst of flavours on our palette. We begin with a Watermelon Mojito – this watermelon and mojito combination is a watermelon lover’s dream come true. Served delightfully cold, this tropical drink is very flavorful and a perfect start to the meal in summer.
Next comes the Pho-Ga soup – a Vietnamese soup with carrot, bokchoy, shitake, rice noodles, coriander, beans and red chilli. This vegetarian pho is full of flavor, thanks to spices, herbs and sautéed shiitake mushrooms!
The starters are sumptuous and come in a variety that suits all tastes. The Mac and Cheese was very close to the original version with a crispy light crust and an amazing cheesy taste that felt moist and creamy in the mouth.
The OG florets are seriously delicious, to the point that I would say that it’s the MOST delicious way to eat cauliflower. It makes the perfect vegan side dish for any special occasion!
The Loaded Nachos were a hit. These beauties score high in appearance, chip stability, and the taste can’t be beat.
The BBQ No Wings made from Veg proteins tasted absolutely like the real ones and had a meaty texture; dipped in a coating and fried, they were made from a mix of soya, wheat flour, almond flour wheat protein etc. and were delightfully crunchy and had a lovely sauce on the top that gave a zingy taste with every bite. If you are trying to become a Vegan, this one would be a great option to try as you won’t miss your meat with this one!
The Smile of Nature salad was a delightful medley of Kale, Pomegranate, Red Grapes, Sunflower seeds, Organic Quinoa, English Cucumber with a Soya, Ginger, Sesame dressing. Colourful, fresh, easy and delicious, this one tells you that boring salad days are over!
The Lasagna was truly the BEST Vegan Lasagna! Layered with a plant-based meat mince that was meaty and flavourful with that perfect concasse, bechamel sauce, parmesan and basil this one is sure to satisfy!
The Graffiti Eggplant was comforting, flavorful and delicious, stuffed with roasted Mediterranean vegetables and Marmande tomato cream, if reminded one of mom’s cooking and a stove bubbling away in family kitchens with the aromas all around you!
Matcha smoothie, their latest new addition was a delight for all matcha lovers – matcha and passionfruit smoothie infused with fresh coconut is the perfect pick-me-up! It’s loaded with antioxidants, from both the green tea and the produce added in, and so it’s a healthy option.
We end the lovely meal with a dessert of warm Churros and Chocolate and Pistachio cupcakes! The churros were crisp and the chocolate and peanut sauces were creamy and delicious. They are perfectly crunchy and delightfully sweet, and the sugar dusting really hits the spot. Wait until you dip it in the rich chocolate sauce—you’re in for a treat! Eating the Churro dipper with the chocolate sauce was like eating chocolate frosting on a cookie. Yum!!
Our Verdict: A paradise for the vegans! The extensive menu features scrumptious plant-based varieties, including reproductions of meat delicacies in delightful vegan options.
