What are the best ways to use essential oils when practicing yoga?

There are different essential oils that are perfectly adapted to Yoga practice.

For better breathing you can use the Eucalyptus Radiata essential oil, that will help to open the respiratory airways and clear the nose. To guide yourself into a clear mind in the beginning of the yoga session, Ylang Ylang is a great essential oil with a floral fragrance. This fragrance helps to find your inner balance. Lavender remains a key ingredient for relaxing. After a session, I recommend using Wintergreen essential oil, diluted in vegetable oil, to relax muscles and for its anti-inflammatory action.       

Why do essentials oils help relax the mind?

Essential oils have many properties that are scientifically proven. If they are treating the body ailments, they are also relieving the mind and help to balance the emotional peak. The explanation of the action of essential oils on the mind is pretty technical. What is important to remind is that essential oils send, through our olfactory sensors, messages to our brain. Some essential oils are specifically advice for relaxation.

What are the best essential oils to use for relaxation?

When it comes to relaxation and sleep, the best essential oils are lavender, chamomile, sweet orange, petitgrain bigarade, Asian rosewood, green mandarin and lemongrass.

The choice of one or the other essential oil depend on the property you are looking for (stress, meditation, sleep, relaxation …) and how you would like to use it (diffusion, bath, massage …).

It is possible to use it in diffusion, during the day to calm down and in the evening to help you better sleep. It can be used in massage, along the spine, on the solar plexus, the arch of the foot and inside the wrists: Dilute six drops of true lavender essential oil in a tablespoon of sweet almond plant oil if possible. It contains a blend of 12 essentials oils to help release tension and calm feelings of anger, nervousness, or low morale.

What is 1 essential oil recipe you use the most and what does it target or do?

I would keep the True Lavender essential oil to be more relax daily and have a better sleep.

Do you have any tips for anyone using essential oils for the first time?

I would strongly recommend to strictly observe the dosages, precautions for use, length of treatment and administration route: these are active extracts which must be used with the utmost care. Always keep your essential oil in its original packaging, with the instruction leaflet, so that you can refer to it whenever you need.

It’s also important to begin step by step, for example you could begin with one essential oil that answers to a daily need that you have, always with precaution of course.
