Addressing emotional barriers to weight loss

Emotional Intelligence Specialist Tanya Fakhoury joins Right Bite; seeks to empower clients with positive behaviours towards food for lifetime health and fitness

Do you turn to food when you feel depressed, bored or stressed? Do you habitually fail to resist your food cravings and end up throwing your weight loss efforts off track? If this sounds much like you and you feel ready to give up because you see the number on the scale stay put (or worse, go up), fret not, help is on the way!

Right Bite, the pioneer in healthy meal delivery service, is stepping up anew its commitment of helping people lead healthy lives with the introduction of a wellness coaching program in collaboration with Emotional Intelligence Development Specialist, Tanya Fakhoury. The program is designed to empower clients on how to regain control of their eating habits and help them get back on track with their weight-loss goals. It will also take a deeper look into emotional eating, uncovering and addressing the underlying issues of an individual’s emotional dependence on food and how to correct it in order to build a positive relationship with food, leading to healthy eating habits and long-term weight management.

Emotional eating or stress eating is using food to feel better – eating to fill emotional needs, rather than to fill the stomach. Tanya explained that when eating is the primary emotional coping mechanism, a person gets stuck in an unhealthy cycle where the real feeling or problem is never addressed.  Not only does emotional eating sabotage weight-loss efforts, it also often leads to overeating, especially too much of high-calorie, sweet and fatty foods.

Tanya, who is also an NLP (Neurolingusitic Programming) Practitioner, said, “I’m extremely excited to join Right Bite and work alongside the team to help clients achieve a life-long healthy lifestyle. Joining forces with Right Bite means forming a multi-disciplinary team that will benefit clients positively and impact their quality of life. This program goes beyond just losing 5 or 10 kilos. This systematic program will take clients step by step towards achieving their weight-loss goals by resolving the underlying issues that might cause them to eat mindlessly. It helps them identify the triggers then get rid of them once and for all. It will help them separate food and eating from their emotional life and change the way they think about food and eating. It will allow them to learn to be more calm and relaxed in their lives. So instead of food and eating being an emotional solution, it becomes an appropriate solution to hunger, and new patterns of behaviour are developed that enable the person to deal with emotions and life.”

“People need to consider their emotional health (beliefs, values and habits), along with diet and exercise, when aiming for lifelong fitness. We are all aware of the importance of healthy eating and exercise but what most people underestimate is the impact their thoughts and beliefs have on their weight and weight-related issues. If you think you can’t lose weight because you’re too old, you believe you can never be fit because you have the fat genes, you deem that no matter how many diets you try you will still gain the weight back, and so on, you are feeding your brain negative thoughts that have powerful influence on you. This program will reverse this kind of habit. We will train your conscious mind to think thoughts of weight-loss success, health, fitness, general wellbeing and overall happiness,” Tanya further explained.

While Right Bite is widely known for its individualized gourmet healthy meal plans, the company has been continuously innovating in order to provide a broad portfolio of other services and programs aligned with its commitment of helping customers eat healthy and achieve and maintain long-term overall wellness. Nathalie Haddad, Founder and Managing Director, The Right Bite Nutrition and Catering Services L.L.C., said, “We are happy to have Tanya on board with us and, with her talent and experience, offer this new program to our clients. Right Bite is not just all about healthy eating; an important part of our mission is to empower individuals with knowledge – not only nutrition knowledge – but a heightened awareness of themselves meant to improve mental, emotional and physical health, which are all essential for overall positive wellbeing.”
