This is it people. This is not a drill. It is March and the last month of the Expo2020, 30 days and 4 weekends to go! If you still have not been there, you must plan a visit soon and make the most of it, says Ipshita Sharma. With all the delays due to the pandemic that Dubai had to face, it is incredible what they were able to achieve for this fantastic winter-long event.
What’s left to check out? Let us tell you all about the top things to do it so you can have a great experience even if you’ve never been before or if you’re going one last time.
- Check out the major pavilions like the Mobility, Saudi, UAE, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Egypt, Morocco, Palestine and the women’s Pavilions. Do not forget to book them in advance or be ready for queues. Don’t miss out on the charm of the smaller pavilions. Our favourites were Suriname, Jordan, Latvia, Estonia, Belize, Dominica, Iraq and St Vincent and the Grenadines.
- The smallest country in the world, The Vatican City, has an incredible pavilion called the Holy See. Don’t forget to go up to the monk there and ask for a tour. You will not regret it!
- Know more about the smaller organisations related to UAE through their pavilions – DEWA, Dubai Cares, the UAE pavilion, Sameem (that talks about history and culture) and the United Nations Hub.
- Must try food experiences include Sushiro for sushi next to the Japan pavilion, Dampa in the
Mobility district for incredible seafood options, Vietnam pavilion for amazing Pho, Pakistan pavilion for some yummy street food, New Zealand pavilion for lamb chops or mussels, Bread Ahead for great pizzas and greater donuts and end the meals with Floozie stuffed cookies.
- There are daily shows at the Poland pavilion (Chopin on the piano), Argentina pavilion (Tango music), China pavilion (drone light show), Malaysia pavilion (music and dance) and the Australia pavilion has various events going on all evening if you plan to visit later in the day.
- The Al Wasl Plaza is the place to hang out in the evenings to catch amazing performances by world-class performers – there are musicals based around Dubai or the Bollywood musical created by Shekhar Kapur or the Firdaus Orchestra by AR Rahman or incredible Filipino bands like Parokya Ni Edgar or Ben & Ben.
- Michelin star experiences are available thanks to Jubilee Gastronomy, Kutir, The National and Mudra. Go indulge your tastebuds with cuisines from around the world.
- Get your gang and head to one of the rooftop bars of the pavilions like Australia or Denmark or the fun Alkebulan African dining hall or even pisco at the Chile pavilion!
- Finally, the awe-inspiring Surreal Water feature and the beautiful Illuminate experiences that are not-to-be-missed by any Expo visitor. The musical water feature is so much fun and so well-executed while the lighting structures create a magical environment that is fun for both children and adults.
- The Garden in the Sky gives a breathtaking aerial view of the entire EXPO site and is something that is not to be missed. Based in the Jubilee Park, close to the Expo 2020 water feature, it offers 360-degree views of the wonder-filled 4.38 sq km Expo site. An observation deck on a two-storey circular platform houses 10 yellow flame trees – an integral part of the UAE’s outdoor landscapes. Soaring 55 metres above ground, the rotating observation tower is one of the top attractions at the EXPO.

This once in a lifetime experience will no longer be around a month later and now is the one chance you get to be a part of history and do something not many others can do.
